Bloomberg is reporting that Epic Games is deep into development on a competitive extraction shooter starring Disney characters, targeting a November 2026 release — and the details are wild.
Epic’s new project is described as being “along the lines of Arc Raiders” — think, Fight enemies, navigate large maps, reach an extraction point under pressure. But instead of gritty Tarkov style realism, this one features iconic Disney characters inside a shared universe built on Unreal Engine. This is the first major title born from Disney’s $1.5 billion investment in Epic back in 2024.
Disney and Epic are building what they call a persistent “games and entertainment universe” — a long term strategy to expand Disney’s reach to younger male audiences and compete in the live service space. This extraction shooter is reportedly Game 1 of a planned trilogy with Game 1: The extraction shooter — mixed internal reactions, but still full steam ahead; Game 2: Already in development, but early reviews are “middling”; Game 3: Resources shifted away after Disney pushed for a tighter timeline. Epic says the roadmap is “aggressive,” but they’re committed to building a new cross media universe.
This project arrives during a turbulent moment for Epic: Fortnite engagement has dipped; Over 1,000 employees were laid off earlier this year, and multiple internal teams were restructured. The Disney shooter is being positioned as a major comeback swing — a chance to prove Epic can deliver something big outside Fortnite.
Our take? A Disney extraction shooter from Epic Games is one of the most unexpected swings of 2026 — and it could either be a massive crossover hit or a high stakes gamble. Either way, November 2026 just got a lot more interesting.
