Following the official announcement of Halo: Campaign Evolved—a comprehensive remake of the original Combat Evolved scheduled for release in 2026—reputable industry sources indicate that full campaign remakes of Halo 2 and Halo 3 are also under active development.
These initiatives are part of a broader strategy at Halo Studios (formerly known as 343 Industries) to modernize the original trilogy using Unreal Engine 5 while expanding the franchise’s presence to new platforms, including its inaugural launch on PlayStation 5.
Consistent with the approach taken for the Combat Evolved remake, the projects for Halo 2 and Halo 3 are reportedly concentrating exclusively on single-player and cooperative campaign experiences. Leaked information suggests these remakes will incorporate updated movement mechanics—such as the introduction of a sprint feature, a first for the classic trilogy—and may include revised level designs to support these enhancements.
To prevent fragmentation of the multiplayer community, competitive multiplayer modes are not expected to be included in these remakes; instead, Halo 7 is anticipated to serve as the central multiplayer platform for the series moving forward. According to insiders, Halo Studios aims to leverage the nostalgic appeal of the original trilogy to reestablish credibility with long-time fans ahead of launching future mainline titles.
The initial entry in this suite of remakes, Halo: Campaign Evolved, is slated for release on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5 in 2026. Reports indicate it will introduce three new prequel missions featuring Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson, along with expanded content such as additional weapons and vehicles—including the Energy Sword and Wraith—which were previously unavailable or appeared in later entries. While not yet officially confirmed, recent leaks point to a potential launch date of July 28, 2026, with early access beginning July 23.
Our take? Halo Studios appears to be leaning into the nostalgia of the Bungie era to rebuild trust, re-energize the community, and set the stage for the next generation of Halo storytelling. If these reports hold true, we’re witnessing the most ambitious Halo revival since 2001!
