Nintendo’s second quarter of 2026 is shaping up to be one of its busiest in years. Multiple insider reports — especially from NateTheHate and VGC — point to a coordinated push across Star Fox, Mario, Zelda, and even third party giants like Starfield. The strategy looks like a mix of nostalgia, cross media synergy, and platform expanding partnerships.
The Star Fox rumors have gone from whispers to near-certainty thanks to multiple aligned reports. Leaks suggest Nintendo could drop the announcement any day now — via Nintendo Direct, the Nintendo Today app, or even a stealth Twitter/X reveal. A return to classic on rails Star Fox, with arcade style missions and modernized visuals. Insiders also mention online multiplayer, which would be a first for the series. Multiple sources point to Summer 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2 — lining up with Fox McCloud’s cameo in the Super Mario Galaxy Movie. This would be the first major Star Fox release in a decade, and Nintendo seems ready to revive the franchise across games and films.
Illumination’s Super Mario Galaxy Movie just dropped earlier this month and is already dominating the conversation, with Rosalina voiced by Brie Larson, Yoshi voiced by Donald Glover, and Fox McCloud cameo (which ties directly into the Star Fox revival buzz). No official confirmation of a Galaxy themed 3D Mario yet. But insiders believe Nintendo is deep into development on a new 3D Mario for Switch 2, likely to leverage the movie’s momentum. However — some reports say 3D Mario may slip to 2027, with Zelda taking the 2026 holiday slot instead. Either way, Mario is absolutely part of Nintendo’s long term Switch 2 strategy.
With Starfield officially hitting PlayStation 5 on April 7, 2026, the door is wide open for Microsoft to expand even further. Microsoft reportedly wants its biggest games — Starfield, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and others — on Switch 2 to reach a broader audience. The Switch 2 version is rumored to include Major optimization passes, Updated mechanics, and possibly launching alongside the Terran Armada DLC later this year. Some insiders say the port is inevitable. Others warn of development hurdles that could push it into 2027. If it lands though, it would be one of the biggest third party releases ever on a Nintendo platform.
Our take? Nintendo’s 2026 slate is shaping up to be a cross media, multi franchise power play with Star Fox returning in classic form — and soon, Mario dominating the theaters, with a new 3D game entry likely in development, Starfield primed to become Switch 2’s biggest technical flex yet, and Zelda set to anchor the holiday season with a major remake, this is the kind of year where Nintendo fires on all cylinders — nostalgia, innovation, and strategic partnerships!
