The PS6 Era is Set to go Triple Threat!

Industry insiders report that Sony is shifting from its traditional single-console approach to a new three-tier hardware ecosystem for the next generation. Expected to launch in late 2027 or 2028, this lineup will likely feature three different devices aimed at various segments of the market.

The strategy reportedly revolves around two chipsets: "Orion" for the high-end flagship model and "Canis" for the more budget-friendly and portable options.

The PS6 (Orion) is anticipated to be a powerful next-generation console, offering up to three times the rasterization performance of the PS5. Leaks suggest it will incorporate AMD’s Zen 6 CPU and RDNA 5 GPU, targeting gameplay at 4K 120 FPS or possibly even 8K.

The PS6 "S"/Lite (Canis) is planned as a cost-effective home console, designed to compete with the Xbox Series S. It will likely use a scaled-down version of the next-gen architecture, making it an accessible option for entry-level users.

The PS6 Handheld (Canis), unlike the streaming-focused PlayStation Portal, is expected to be a fully native handheld device capable of running PS4 and PS5 games locally, and potentially downscaled PS6 titles. Reports describe it as a "dockable" hybrid, similar to the Nintendo Switch.

Analysts predict a wide price range to match the multiple tiers: the PS6 ‘S’/Lite (small form factor, entry-level "Canis" chip) is estimated between $299 and $549; the PS6 Handheld (dockable, native PS4/PS5 play, 1080p display) between $399 and $699; and the main PS6 (high-performance "Orion" chip, focused on ray tracing) will be priced from $699 to $999.

While late 2027 is considered the primary target for release, some analysts warn that a global memory shortage or supply chain disruptions could delay the launch to 2028 or 2029. Sony has yet to officially confirm these projects.

Our take? Sony’s aiming for range, flexibility, and market coverage like never before, and if these reports hold, the PS6 generation won’t be a single console — it’ll be a platform family, built to dominate living rooms, backpacks, and everything in between.
