Xbox Just Sunset the 2TB Series X — And the Reason Is Wild!

by L.W. and Ann Marie Barker

Microsoft has officially discontinued the 2TB Xbox Series X, and the culprit is none other than the global components crisis that’s been hammering the entire tech industry.

The 2TB model was the priciest current‑gen Xbox, and with storage + memory costs skyrocketing thanks to AI‑driven demand, keeping it alive became impossible. So Xbox pulled the plug — worldwide.

So, the fallout? Well, the 2TB Series X is Sunset. Gone. Vaulted. The 512GB models and 1TB models are getting a $100 and $150 price increase respectively on August 1, 2026.

Now this matters because AI is eating up RAM and storage supply like a hungry locust swarm, and consoles are feeling the squeeze. This is one of the first major casualties — but probably not the last.

Our take? The 2TB Series X was a beast, and losing it stings. But the industry is shifting fast, and this move shows just how intense the component crunch has become.

Stay tuned, noble reader — the next wave of hardware changes is already forming.
